Kelly Strum has been named the Baptist Women in Ministry Woman Minister of the Year.
She was recognized at the 2023 General Assembly of CBF of South Carolina on April 21.
Kelly is a 2008 Master of Divinity graduate of the Lutheran Theological Seminary of Columbia (Baptist Studies Program). She was ordained to the ministry at Eau Claire Baptist Church in 2007.
Kelly admired and followed the community work of Metanoia in North Charleston for many years. Then in 2017, Kelly and her husband Dave began the faith-based, non-profit, Koinonia of Columbia (Asset-Based Community Development) in partnership with Eau Claire Baptist Church.
Kelly has worked to build and grow relationships in the North Columbia community. She was awarded “Educator of the Year” by the Eau Claire Community Council in 2018 and has earned the respect of local community and business association leaders. The Koinonia board of directors is now two years led by a chairperson that is a longstanding neighborhood resident, chosen by the citizens of the community.
Kelly is a leader that inspires those around her to achieve their dreams. The one message she always wants the children and families of Koinonia to know and feel is that they are, “Welcome, Child of God!”
Kelly and Dave are the parents of two children whom they adopted at birth, Malachi (10) and Kamryn (8).
