Kyle Minyard has home church advantage as Student.Church intern

Student.Church Intern
First Baptist Church, Anderson
I’m serving through CBF’s Student.Church program this summer at First Baptist Church of Anderson as a Youth Ministry Intern. I am working directly under Amy Brown, minister to students for the past six years. This summer’s internship is a continuation of my internship at FBC in the summer of 2019.
Unlike many of my fellow Student.Church interns, I am able to work both virtually and in person. First Baptist has been my home church since I was about two years old so I have seen many of the students I get to serve grow up in this church or join the youth group. This, along with serving here for over a year now, gives me a big advantage because I have had time to build relationships with the youth.
The biggest challenge for me during this pandemic has been keeping youth engaged. We have had to think of new and creative ways to connect with the students and to keep them encouraged and hopeful, and excited about coming back to church. One way we have done this is that every Friday afternoon I deliver a small gift (candy, salty snacks, trick shot materials, T-shirt, etc) to each of my youth.
I have also been given the responsibility this summer of planning our Wild Wednesdays. I am super excited to be entrusted with this and excited for the challenges it also brings with trying to keep things fresh though having restrictions due to Covid-19. This is an experience that will help me as I continue my ministry.
Through this internship I have heard and answered God’s call for my life to go into ministry full time. I plan on starting back to school this fall, pursuing a degree in ministry.

I am thankful for the opportunities that Student.Church has given me and continues to give me. This organization has had to change the format of how it operates and runs the internship programs which has meant much more interaction between us. -Kyle
Student.Church is a CBF Global program that provides congregational internships to students who are interested in a deeper experience of church life or pursuing a call to ministry. Interns are mentored by seasoned ministers as they explore the breadth of congregational ministry through a variety of learning experiences.
