Late in 2013, CBF of SC announced a 3-year partnership with the Roma people. Here is some information from the Missions Team on how you and your church can connect and participate in this international ministry.
Potential Activities for Roma Mission Work in Slovakia in Partnership with CBF of SC Churches and Individuals.
The Samuel Project in Vazec, Slovakia – Shane and Dianne McNary
- working in conjunction with 2 social workers in the community to try and meet the ongoing educational needs of the Roma particularly in the Roma settlement
- raising funds for the purchase of a building that will allow for a preschool and kindergarten for Roma children. This will allow better readiness for the students who are often put into special needs classes because of the national test to enter school.
- working in conjunction with the local church to provide English camps and VBS type camps for the children and adults
Vocational Training School in Kezmarok – The Parks
There is a large vocational school for Roma students ages 16-25. This is located about 2 hours from Kosice. The school provides training in woodworking, graphic arts, cosmetology, sewing, construction, and other areas. Possibilities would be working along the leaders by offering special classes in the designated areas.
Lucenec (Lou-sin-itch) – Shane and Dianne McNary
Working in conjunction with the local Baptist association in offering English camps, working with the Roma churches, offering a week of family camp for both Roma and Slovak families, pastor training, crafts, etc.
Kosice (ko-sheet-say) – The Parks
Working with the Parks to offer ESL and English camps for local Slovaks and Roma.
